A curious group of children gather outside their home to glance at a foreign photographer while a man walks by with a walking stick. This is an era after a trade treaty has been passed with the United States. Many Americans and Europeans took this opportunity to visit Korea for religious missions or capital ventures. It is a very intriguing point in Korean history because an annexation occurred shortly after. I will touch more upon this on another post.

What I love about this photo is the man and the children gathered outside. It seems like the man is either on his way to trade or has had a good day at the market. -or better yet, he is a puppeteer or some sort, as it looks like there is a doll on his back.
