Green tea, especially loose leaf tea that are organic and not processed, are rich in catechins, which are antioxidants that fight and prevent heart-related issues.  Catechins lower cholesterol and blood pressure, improving overall blood flow to your brain and body.  Research has shown that green tea is beneficial to people fighting diabetes and high blood pressure.  Green tea has even shown helping the prevention of plaque formation linked to Alzheimer’s disease.

It is recommended to avoid using boiling water to brew green tea or mixing dairy products with the tea as it is harmful for its catechins and its absorption.  However, mixing the tea with vitamin C on the other hand, helps catechin absorption.  Having green tea after a meal or at the end of the day helps with digestion and relaxation.  Theanine, a natural chemical found in green tea, provide a calming effect to the mind and body.
